Virginia "Jean" (Pishnery) Rankin

Of Forest Hills, age 94, died on Tuesday, October 10, 2023.

Jean was the beloved wife of Ned B. Rankin for 62 years and the loving mother of Karen (David) Andrews of Penn Twp., Ned (Kathy) Rankin of Forest Hills and Zane Rankin of Swissvale.

She was the cherished grandmother of Noah Andrews, Britt (Artie) Petro, Anthony (Kate) Rankin and Natalie (fiancé Daniel Mendez) Rankin and the proud great-grandmother of Wyatt, Hazel and Everett Petro.

Jean was preceded in death by her sisters, Erma Reid and Amy Rainey and her brothers, Nicholas, Angelo, Joseph and Dominic Pishnery.

She is also survived by nieces and nephews.

 Jean was a career waitress/hostess with various restaurants including Stouffers’ in Downtown Pittsburgh, The Brown Derby in Monroeville Mall and Scotty’s in Oakland.

Jean was an active member of the Italian Sons and Daughters Association, Forest Hills Lodge and the Catholic Daughters of America, Court Westinghouse.

She was known for being an excellent baker of pizzelles among other delicacies. Jean also wove many afghans that have become treasures for her family members. And, like many of her family members, Jean had an appreciation for music, especially big Band and other music from the 1940’s.

Friends are welcome on Friday from 2-8pm at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 700 Linden Avenue at Cable Avenue, East Pittsburgh (412-824-8800).

Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anselm Church, Swissvale, (St. Joseph the Worker Parish) on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Jean will be laid to rest privately in Monongahela Cemetery.
