Of Forest Hills, age 73, died on Friday, May 5, 2023, after a spirited effort through a brief illness.
Veronica was the beloved wife of Dennis Volcheck for 49 years.
She was the loving and cherished mother of David Volcheck of Forest Hills and Marianne (Jeremy) Fernsler of Glendale, CA.
Veronica absolutely adored and treasured her grandchildren, Lida and Roger Fernsler.
She is also survived by her sister, Janice Vucic of Pittsburgh, and three nephews and one niece.
Veronica was preceded in death by her first husband, Steven Kholos who died in 1971; her parents, Rudolph and Katherine (Gornick) Vucic; and her sister, Ann (surviving spouse, Thomas) Pegg.
Veronica was a 1967 graduate of Our Lady of Mercy Academy in Monroeville, and earned her Associate’s Degree from the Community College of Allegheny County. For 33 years, Veronica was a cafeteria employee for the Woodland Hills School District.
A devout Catholic, she exhibited a fervent faith as a member and volunteer of the former St. Maurice Parish (now St. Joseph the Worker Parish) where she was a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Ladies of Charity. Veronica’s creative and kind spirit shined in everything she did. Most of all, she loved baking and cooking, especially for others. Any visitor to her home would be well-satisfied with a meal and wouldn’t leave without a take-home container of soup, haluski, cookies - you name it! She was very hospitable and inviting to many and would do all she could to care for others.
As a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union, she was proud to celebrate her Croatian heritage with her family, especially dancing kolos and singing along to the music. She was also an enthusiastic theater-goer, taking in as many shows as she could.
Veronica was a sweet and wonderful person who will be deeply missed.
