Toshio Morita

Of Pittsburgh, age 93, passed away on Friday, April 28, 2023.

Born the son of the late Ihei Morita and the late Tokiko Morita.

Beloved husband of Mitsuyo (Kawai) Morita.

Dear brother of Atsuko (the late Toshio) Okazaki and Hiroshi (Kumi) Morita.

Uncle of Takako (Anton Tan) Morita, Junko Morita, and Youchi (Yukako) Morita.

Great uncle of Aysen Tan, Sachi Tan, and Kiena Tan. 

Toshio took pride in his Engineering education, having obtained both his Bachelor of Science in 1953 and Doctorate in 1963 from the Tokyo Institute of Technology.  He served the role of technology officer at the Ministry of International Trade and Industry in Tokyo from 1953 to 1961 and engineering manager at Mitsubishi Atomic Power Industries in Tokyo from 1961 to 1971.  

Toshio immigrated to the United States and settled in Pittsburgh in 1971.  Immediately following his arrival, he began adding to his successful resume in the field of Nuclear Engineering by starting a career with Westinghouse Electric Corporation.  Toshio specialized in numerical analysis in Nuclear Engineering, research and development for pressurized water reactor plants, reactor design invention for Nuclear Energy, and constant axial offset control.  Toshio was employed with Westinghouse until his retirement in 2012.  He humbly gave back to his profession, by serving as a member of the American Nuclear Society and the Atomic Energy Society of Japan.

Toshio was a skilled violinist, and enjoyed playing with several orchestras and string quartet groups in Pittsburgh and Tokyo.  He was also an avid golfer and member of River Forest Country Club.  Most of all, Toshio treasured spending time with family, especially Mitsuyo.

Friends are welcome Saturday, May 6, 2023 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home & Crematory; 1111 Monroeville Ave.; Turtle Creek, PA 15145; (412) 823-9350, where a Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m.

Toshio will be laid to rest privately.
