Tom was a 1970 graduate of Hempfield Area High School, and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in accounting from Alliance College in 1974. Following his graduation, Tom began working for the PA State System of Higher Education. He then accepted a position with National Refractories, where he worked for many years as a controller in Columbiana, Ohio and Mexico, Missouri. Tom was also employed with several computer businesses, also as a controller, before retiring in 2013.
Tom was well known for his woodworking talents and took great pride in his finished pieces. He found relaxation in both watching and playing the game of golf, birdwatching, and of course detailing his cars. Most of all, Tom treasured spending time with all of his family and caring for his grand-pets. He had a deep love for his soul mate, Karen, his children, Tom and Nicole, and his siblings. Tom received the greatest reward in life through his grandchildren, whom he adored with unspeakable affection.
