Of Manor, PA, formerly of Braddock, PA, age 88, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2025.
Born on May 11, 1937, in Columbia Hospital in Wilkinsburg, PA, to the late Elizabeth “Betty” Lewis, Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband John Kopay Sr. and her son, John Kopay Jr.
She is survived by her daughters, Georgette (Ronald) Dusetzina, Judy (Paul) Kopay-Telli, and Sylvia A. Kopay; granddaughters Ellen (Chad) Buchanan, Nicole (Shaneka) Dusetzina, Brandi (Derek) Stern, Samantha (Jordan) King; great-grandchildren Kaylee Dusetzina, Mason Stern and Leo Stern, as well as many other beloved relatives.
Sylvia was a graduate of the Shadyside Hospital School of Nursing. After graduating, she pursued a fulfilling career in nursing, much of which was spent at the former Braddock Hospital where she later retired as a nursing supervisor. She was previously a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church in Braddock, Braddock Elks, Norwin Elks, Slavonic Social Club in Braddock, and the White Oak Pool.
Sylvia was the definition of a social butterfly and made friends wherever she went. She loved traveling, bowling, cooking, crocheting, playing bingo, going to the casino, listening to country music, and spending time with her family. Most of all, she enjoyed sitting by the pool and basking in the summer sun with a cold drink and a good book in hand.
Sylvia’s visitation and service is private to her family.
She will be laid to rest in Monongahela Cemetery.
