Semiramis Tsudis Obituary

Formerly of Penn Hills, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2023, at Juniper Village in Forest Hills

Semiramis “Semie” was born in Athens, Greece in 1931 to the late Panagiotis and the late Madeleine Arsenis.

She was married to the late Angelo Tsudis for 55 years.

Loving mother of Peter (Carol) Tsudis and Mindy (Steve) Markantone.

Dear grandmother, “YiaYia”, of Mara (RJ Thienman) Tsudis, Evan Tsudis, Desiree Markantone, and Manny Markantone.

Great-grandmother of Penny Thienman.

She is also survived by beloved nieces, nephews and friends.

Semie and her four brothers came to the United States from Athens in 1956 with the help of their Aunt Adroniki Hionis to escape the aftermath of World War II. During a trip to Pittsburgh, she met her husband at a Cephalonian dance and they were married a year later. Semie and her husband provided support and translation for the families of transplant recipients at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Semie was a longtime member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral where she was very active. She worked in the church bookstore, served in Philoptochos, acted as a chairperson for the St. Nicholas Food Festival and chaired the preparation of Vasilopita. Her sense of humor, hospitality, and baking skills made for an entertaining and warm atmosphere for her loved ones.

The funeral and burial will be private, but family and friends will be welcomed to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral for the 40-day memorial and celebration of her life at the 10 a.m. Divine Liturgy on Sunday, February 26, 2023., followed by a memorial luncheon in the church hall. Memorial contributions in Mrs. Tsudis’ name may be made to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral 419 Dithridge Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15213.

Semie will be laid to rest at Verona Cemetery in Oakmont.
