Obituary of Roger Lee Schmitt

Of Swissvale, a native of Wahpeton, North Dakota, age 86, died at home on Thursday, September 18, 2025.

Roger was the beloved and devoted husband of Marie (Roob) Schmitt for 64 years.

He was the loving father of Lesha Syring of ND, Brian (Velma) Schmitt of ND, Scott (Gloria) Schmitt of ND and Ron Schmitt of Swissvale.

Roger was proud to be the grandfather of Meshell Hanson of MN, Joel Syring of SD and the late Jeremiah Medley.

He also the great-grandfather of Dalton, Hailee and Chastity Hanson.

Roger was the brother of Carol (Dennis) Heinen of ND and the late Elizabeth (late Leo) Nordick and the late Mark (late Lucille) Schmitt.

He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

For 32 years, Roger was a professional apiarist (Beekeeper) with multiple hives at various locations in North Dakota. He was a member of the Sioux Honey Association, the producers of Sue Bee Honey. Roger also worked secondary jobs as a carpenter and as a hired hand on neighbors’ farms.
