Beloved husband of the late Sue (Gallaher) Harris for 55 years.
Loving father of Rick Harris, Jim (Karen) Harris, Patti (Ken) Ways and Tom (Sue) Harris.
Cherished grandfather of Steven (Jennifer) Ways, David Ways, Samantha (John) Yost, Melissa Harris, Danielle Harris, Joe Harris and Sydney Harris.
Great-grandfather of Callum Ways.
Beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by sister Madeline “Madge” (William) Hoffman and brother Donald Harris.
Richard was a US Army Air Corps veteran serving in World War II and a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked in the steel industry designing gears and gear drives for rolling mills, retiring from Wean United, Inc.
He enjoyed participating in his children’s activities, especially with the Forest Hills Swim Team and volunteering with the annual Bryn Mawr Corn Roast.
Richard was a faithful member of St. Maurice Church in Forest Hills and for 75 years he was a member of Wilkins Elks Lodge #577. He was a longtime supporter and volunteer with the effort to establish a broadcasting museum in Pittsburgh.
Richard’s service will be held privately through Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home and Crematory Inc.; 700 Linden Ave. at Cable; East Pittsburgh, 412-824-8800.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for memorial donations to the National Museum of Broadcasting; 407 Woodside Rd.; Pittsburgh, PA 15221.
