Miroslav "Miro" Neovesky Obituary

Miroslav “Miro” Neovesky, age 85, of Forest Hills, PA passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, with his beloved granddaughter Emma by his side. Miro was born in 1936 and had a prominent career in broadcast journalism. He started out on Czechoslovak Radio in Prague; in 1969 he and his family emigrated to Germany, where he worked at the Deutschlandfunk public broadcasting institution in Cologne. In 1984, he and his family moved to Washington DC, where Miro initially worked for Voice of America. He later transferred to Radio Free Europe, where he served for many years as Director of the Slovak Section in Washington, DC, Munich, and Prague. He stayed with RFE until his retirement in 1999. While working in Washington DC, he met the love of his life, the late Regina “Jean” Damico. Miro and Jean got married December 26, 1995. Miro fell in love not just with Jean, but with her hometown of Pittsburgh, and they relocated here in 2008. Miro was a kind, witty, generous and loving man. All referred to him as “Sweet Miro”, because he was the sweetest man, but he also loved to bake and eat sweets, a treat for all of us.

Miro was preceded in death by his wife, Regina Damico. He is survived by his two sisters, Elza and Olga, his daughter Martina Ohlídalová (Martin) of Prague, Step-children Kim Damico of Springfield, VA, Carol Lawson (Jeff) of Wendell, NC, John Damico (Linda) of Forest Hills and Michael Damico of Forest Hills and his loving grandchildren Jakub, Emma and Anežka Kelly, Nicole and Christopher Lawson, Mia and Nicolas Damico.
