He was stationed domestically at Mitchel Airfield Military Base in New York where he met his lifelong best friend, Jim Forey. In his last year, he served internationally in France.
Mel was a longtime member of both the VFW Post #5008 in Wilkins Twp. and the Elks Lodge in Wilkins Twp. He was also a devout member of St. Michael the Archangel Orthodox Church in Rankin. Mel enjoyed trying his luck at the casino and treasured the memories shared alongside his family and friends over the years. He and Trudy loved hosting parties where he could bring to light his colorful personality and great sense of humor. Mel will be greatly missed by all, but especially by his soul mate, Trudy. The two met at the Kennywood Park swimming pool, where Mel was a lifeguard. Little did they know their meeting would soon blossom into a 58-year journey full of love and laughter.
