Michael W. Platania, age 72, a long-time resident of Forest Hills, former resident of Penn Hills, passed away on December 24, 2024. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Anna Smolak Platania and Michael Angelo Platania; and his son, Michael Platania. Michael was the longtime significant-other of Nancy Reynolds who is the mother of Allison and Alexis Reynolds.
Michael spent most of his career working for high-end security details which influenced his passion and respect for all things law enforcement. One could often find him at the shooting range or meticulously cleaning his guns. In his earlier days, Michael was a talented vocalist and performed at small venues all around Pittsburgh. He enjoyed covering classic artists such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Jerry Vale.
Most of his family and friends knew Michael for his long-time dedication to the auto body and car detailing industry. He began working on cars as a young child and up until his passing, worked in a local auto body shop where he spent his day tirelessly polishing and shining cars. It was truly his second home, a place where he developed a family with “his buddies at the shop”.
On his off days, you could find Michael getting a coffee, heading to the car wash, grabbing a bite at a local diner, or taking a long ride on his beloved motorcycle.
For those who knew Michael, you knew his big energy and strong opinions. You probably couldn’t get many of your own words into a conversation with him if you tried. You knew him as the motorcycle, car-loving, rifle enthusiast that he was. But his family also knew him as an avid animal lover, especially to his best buddy, Bailey. When Michael was with the many animals that resided in his home, his compassion and big heart shined through, above all else.
Michael was a man of many talents. We find peace knowing that he is finally able to kick his feet up and relax among his loved ones who have passed before him.
An intimate viewing was held at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home on Friday, December 27, 2024.
