Michael J Mehalik

Of North Braddock, age 73, died on Monday, May 19, 2025.

Michael was the beloved husband of Suzanne M. (Masterovsky) for 53 years.

He was the loving and devoted father of Caryn (Anthony) Pizon of Franklin Park, Janae (Charles) Hart of OH and Chrystie (Michael) Aurilio of MD.

Mike was the precious and cherished grandfather of Benjamin, Elizabeth, Gabriela and Seraphina Pizon; Dylan, Jessica and Mackenzie Hart; Gregory and Patrick Aurilio.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Dorothy (Cindrich) Mehalik.

He also was the brother of William (Margaret) Mehalik of IN and the late David Mehalik.

Mike was the brother-in-law of Michael (late Nancy) Masterovsky and Rose (Robert) Sobek.

He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Mike was a proud 1969 graduate of North Braddock Scott High School. Shortly after, he committed six years to serving his country in the U.S. Army Reserves.  His professional journey began at Westinghouse in East Pittsburgh, where he honed his skills and work ethic. Following the plant's closure, Mike seamlessly transitioned to the Westinghouse facility in Cheswick. There, he worked as a winder and was an integral member of the Quality Circles Group, contributing to the manufacturing of generators for the U.S. Navy.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mike was renowned for his artistic talent. His skill in woodworking was more than a hobby as he crafted wooden toys with meticulous care, creating helicopters, fire trucks, and dump trucks that delighted his grandchildren. His passion didn't end with woodworking; Mike was also a gifted painter and sketch artist.

Mike's love for nature was evident to anyone who visited his home. He found solace and joy in feeding the birds and wildlife that frequented his property. Over time, he developed a remarkable connection with these creatures, reflecting a gentle spirit and respect for God’s creatures. His rapport with nature extended to his meticulous care for his flower gardens.

Those who knew Mike will recall his fondness for his cars that he took immense pride in washing and waxing. He also enjoyed the camaraderie of the game of golf.
 

Mike's life was one of service to his country and to his loved ones. He found beauty in the simple things of life with his passions and talents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be in Good Shepherd Church, Braddock (St. Joseph the Worker Parish) on Friday at 10 a.m.

Mike will be laid to rest with Military Honors in Monongahela Cemetery.
