MAUREEN MARIE (MCCUE) ONDREY

Maureen was born in Braddock, PA on January 18, 1957 to the late Bernard “Joe” McCue and the late Agnes “Aggie” (Verba) McCue. Maureen passed away at home on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Maureen will be sadly missed by her cherished, heartbroken family: devoted husband, Paul “Bundy” Ondrey; beloved sons, Stephen and Brian (Heather) Ondrey; precious granddaughter, Emmalynn Ondrey; and loving sister, Arlene McCue Gentile (Arthur Gallagher, III). Maureen was preceded in death by her treasured sister and brother, the late Collene Tkocs-Dubich and the late Joseph “Danny” McCue.

Maureen is also survived by her dearly loved nieces and nephews: Michael (Melanie) Gentile, Jeffrey Gentile, Joseph Tkocs (Ricki Concannon), John (Kylie) Dubich, Danny McCue, Elisha Dubich, Kim Sergy; and great-nieces and great-nephews: Dominick, Gavin, Olivia, Mackenzie, Colton, Collene-Grace and Braydon.

In addition, Maureen is survived by her brother-in-law, Stephen (Kathy) Ondrey and their children: Mark and Lisa (Tom) Trosky and preceded in death by their son, Matthew. Maureen was also preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Geraldine McClean, and also Jackie and Michael Tomasic who are the children of her sister-in-law, Elaine (late Tom) Fabrizi.  Also mourning her loss is her sister-in-law Barbara (Kim Savoca) McCue, and Maureen’s cousins, Doreen (Gerry) Dolton and their daughters, Laura Jane and Jamie, and the Bonacci Family.

Maureen was a 1975 graduate of West Mifflin North High School. She attended Edinboro University of PA and later worked as a Secretary for US Steel Corporation until she started her family. Maureen enjoyed helping to organize past high school class reunions, attended the most recent reunion, and continued to hold her classmates close to her heart until the day she passed.

Affectionately known as “Mar” or “Mrs. O”, Maureen was an accomplished ‘fisherwoman’. She spent countless hours on the lake at Pymatuning, casting a line in the water and patiently waiting to hear her husband Bundy’s words, “Fish on”. She appreciated music and loved to dance. Mar enjoyed every holiday, summer picnics, and playing cards, especially Canasta. Most recently, her favorite pastime was researching family histories on Ancestry for family and friends. She loved the Steelers and was good at everything she tried, except telling jokes.

Wildwood was Mar’s favorite vacation spot. The sound of “Watch the tram car, please”, the smell and taste of Mack’s Pizza with birch beer, and the sight of the Douglass Fudge sign let her know she had arrived at her very special happy place.

Mar loved people and animals but was not a fan of flowers, bees or other bugs.  Strays (people and animals alike), often found a warm and welcoming sanctuary in her home. She was funny and enjoyed a good joke but was hard-pressed to tell one accurately. She would end up laughing at herself, mid-joke, before she even got to the punchline. Her smile and laughter were contagious.

Mar was genuine, selfless, and she enjoyed a family life that included her cats, Silver and Flint, the late Stewy, and her late pups, Diamond, Basil, and Rex. Local neighbors still recall the “family walks” around the block with Diamond and Basil on their leashes while Stewy, the cat, followed close behind. Neighbors laughed while drivers stopped their cars to ask, “Do you know there’s a black cat following you?” This was a special moment in Mar’s life that made her so happy.

To her husband, Bundy, her sons, Stephen and Brian, and granddaughter Emmalynn, Maureen leaves behind a lifetime of beautiful memories and a legacy of warmth, kindness, caring, generosity, and love. She takes a piece of each of our hearts with her. Mar was a cherished, beautiful soul, and she will always be remembered and missed by all who knew and loved her.

All are welcome on Sunday, July 5, from 1-7pm at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 700 Linden Ave. at Cable, East Pittsburgh, PA 15112, (412) 824-8800 where a Blessing Service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m.

Maureen will be laid to rest in Good Shepherd Cemetery.
