Of North Braddock, age 83, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
Born the daughter of the late George Prokop and the late Mary (Regrut) Prokop.
Beloved sister of George (Judy) Prokop, Monica (Michael Blum) Prokop, Christine Prokop, and Thomas Prokop.
Dear aunt of George (Marla) Prokop, Jennifer (Jon) Shank, Michelle Prokop, and Steven (Tricia) Blum.
Great aunt of George, Ethan, Brandon, Addison, Desmond, Dillon, Drew, and Dori-Jean.
MarySue worked as an English teacher in the South Allegheny School District, serving nearly all of her 35+ years at the high school. Following her retirement in the early 2000’s, she began working as an assistant in the West Newton Public Library. MarySue had a passion for traveling the world. In 1976, she took a cross-country trip and visited many of the U.S. National Parks. She also enjoyed visiting Bar Harbor, Maine, Quebec, Canada, and the Finger Lakes in New York, along with many other destinations.
MarySue was devout in her faith. In her early years, she was a member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church in East Pittsburgh, and in more recent years the Church of the Resurrection in Monroeville, where she was an active volunteer for the pierogi sales and other activities. MarySue also found leisure in scrapbooking, reading books of any genre, card making, and designing flower arrangements.
Friends are welcome on Tuesday from 3-8 p.m. at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 700 Linden Ave. at Cable, East Pittsburgh, PA 15112, (412) 824-8800, where a Panachida will be held on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
On Wednesday, prayers will begin in the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. A Divine Liturgy will be held at 10 a.m. in the Church of the Resurrection (Monroeville).
MarySue will be laid to rest in Monongahela Cemetery.
