Mary M. "Mayme" Koval Obituary

A former resident of East Pittsburgh and Turtle Creek, age 96, died peacefully on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

Mary was the wife of the late Valentine G. Koval, Jr.

She was the loving mother of Helen (Ron) Peters of Myrtle Beach, SC and Valerie (late Dominic) Deramo of Dormont.

Mary was the cherished grandmother of Shane Peters, Kristen Peters, Sierra Deramo and Nico Deramo.

Mayme was the sister of John “Jack” (Madeline) Keane of North Huntingdon, Theresa (late Lloyd) Neal of Irwin, the late Nancy (late Dom) Tarantini, late Barbara (late Don) Wolford and the late Coleman “Spider” (late Dona) Keane.

Mayme was a 1947 graduate of St. Thomas High School in Braddock.  She began her career as a Candy Wrapper with the former Cargo Candy Co. in East Liberty, and soon thereafter, she took a position as a film developer at Wonday Film Co. in Wilkinsburg. She then embarked on a long career as a professional office janitor in the General Office Building of the Edgar Thomson Works of USSteel in Braddock. She retired from USSteel, but growing restless, she took a position and continued her vocation of work with the Frank DiLeo Insurance Agency and Remax in Monroeville. She worked at her occupation until she was 83 years of age.

Known as “Flamin Mayme” to her siblings and friends, she was feisty and strong. She also was famous for loving 5th Avenue candy bars and her motto was “have a candy bar a day” as she loved her sweets.

All are welcome on Friday from 1-3 and 4-7 at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 700 Linden Ave. at Cable, East Pittsburgh, PA 15112, (412) 824-8800.
