Mary Ellen (King) Rutter

Longtime resident of North Braddock, age 96, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on Monday, July 20, 2026.

Born the daughter of the late Charmer King and the late Elizabeth Irene (Flaherty) King.

Beloved wife of the late Grover Cleveland “Pete” Rutter.

Loving mother of Ronald (Agnes) Rutter, Sr. of Monroeville, Donald (Darlene) Rutter of Swissvale, Harold Rutter of North Braddock, Gerald (Susan) Rutter of OH, James Rutter of Turtle Creek, Gary (Holly) Rutter of West Mifflin, Jeffrey Rutter of Glassport, and the late Karen “Sue” (surviving spouse, James) Polacek of North Braddock.

Cherished grandmother of 14 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her siblings.

Faith was an important part of Mary Ellen’s life, gave her strength, comfort, and direction, and it shaped the way she lived each day.  She enjoyed spending her free time shopping, and was a well known animal lover.

Mary Ellen’s loving spirit was evident in the way she cared for her family and in the many thoughtful ways she showed her affection. She was the kind of person who remembered the needs of others and responded with generosity of heart. Her family was the center of her world, and she gave them her unwavering love and support.

Friends are welcome on Friday from 10-11 a.m. at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 700 Linden Ave. at Cable, East Pittsburgh, PA 15112, (412) 824-8800, where a Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m.

Mary Ellen will be laid to rest in Penn Lincoln Memorial Park.
