Of Swissvale, age 97, died peacefully with her family present on Sunday, January 26, 2025.
Marie was born on June 1,1927, in New Castle, the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Diana.
She was the beloved wife of the late Salvatore “Sam” Scandinaro for 68 years.
Marie was the loving mother of Mary Ann (Bob) Rittmeyer of Greentree, Karen Zezza of Harmony and the late Donald Scandinaro.
She was the dear grandmother of David (Chanda) Baacke, Joe (Jennifer) Zezza, Erica (Aaron) Gilligan and Dominic (Jackie) Scandinaro and great-grandmother of Joey Zezza.
Marie was the sister of Anna (Al) Bertolina and Kenneth (Joanne) Diana. She was also preceded in death by her siblings: Rose Frisina, Katherine Stotlemeyer, Guy Diana, Anthony Diana, James Diana, Joseph Diana and Mae Stock.
She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Marie was a career homemaker, devoted to the care and well-being of her husband, Sam and their children. She was a long-time devout member of the former Madonna Del Castello Parish, (now St. Joseph the Worker Parish). For years Marie was delighted to ride a bus, perhaps 2 or 3 times a week, to Downtown Pittsburgh. Once there she would do some shopping, enjoy lunch, meet with friends and enjoy the activity of Downtown.
All are welcome on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Turtle Creek / Monroeville Chapel, 1111 Monroeville Ave., Turtle Creek, 412-823-9350 where a Blessing Service will take place at 1:30.
Marie will be laid to rest privately in Braddock Catholic Cemetery.
Marie’s family is grateful to the members of the Anova Hospice team and the staff of Fair Oaks Personal Care Home.
