A proud graduate of East Pittsburgh High School, Class of 1945, she went on to build a long and dedicated career as an Office Manager with U.S. Steel and Union Railroad. She devoted 37 years of service before retiring in 1987.
Peggy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Anthony “Tony” Portera; her sisters, Gwendolyn Poland and Sandra Cook; and her parents.

Peggy lived a full and joyful life. She was a retired employee of both the Union Railroad and the B&LE Railroad, and was a member of the Ciloets, an organization for USSteel women employees. She loved playing bridge, took great pride in serving as treasurer of The Friendship Club in Monroeville and especially treasured the many bus trips she shared with her sister Gwen. To those who knew her, Peggy was more than a great-aunt—she was a steady presence, a source of wisdom, and a true matriarch whose love spanned generations.
