A lifelong resident of Turtle Creek, Peggy died on her 89th earthly birthday, September 24, 2024, which now also indicates the date of her heavenly birthday.
Peg was the beloved wife of the late William Churchfield for 55 years.
She was the loving mother of Beth (Terry) Mellor of Whitehall, Vicki (Michael) Moses of West Mifflin and Mary (Tom) Tranter of Level Green.
Peg was the dear grandmother of Erin, Sara and Matthew (Kayla) Tranter; Miranda Mellor and Eric (fiancé, Liz) Mellor; and Benny Moses.
She is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren: Anastacia, Genna, Nathaniel, Michael, Ava, Troy, Matthew, Kara and Brionna; and her brother Joseph Cima of NC.
Peg was preceded in death by her sister, Rose Cima.
Peg was a 1953 graduate of Turtle Creek High School. After her marriage to Bill in 1956, her role was to become a stay-at-home Mom. During the years of the girls growing up, Peg volunteered at St. Colman School as a Teacher’s Assistant and as a band parent with Turtle Creek High School. When the girls were older, Peg joined the workforce at Parklane Hosiery in Monroeville Mall and later became a manager with Burlington in Monroeville, from where she retired.
Peg was recognized as an excellent baker and enjoyed tending to her flower garden. She also was a voracious reader and crossword puzzle solver.
Friends are welcome on Friday from 3-7 at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Turtle Creek / Monroeville Chapel, 1111 Monroeville Ave., Turtle Creek, 412-823-9350.
Mass of Christian Burial will be in St. Colman Church (St. Joseph the Worker Parish) on Saturday at 10 a.m. Additional viewing in Church from 9-10 a.m. Every one attending the Mass should go directly to St. Colman Church. There will not be a gathering at the funeral home prior to the Mass.
Peg will be laid to rest in Good Shepherd Cemetery.
