Lois Lisgaris Obituary

Of North Braddock, age 81, passed away on Friday, January 15, 2021.  She was born to Evelyn and Earl Boden on May 6, 1939 in Wilkinsburg, PA.

In her life, she was surrounded by many who loved her dearly.  She is survived by her only child, Michelle V. Lisgaris and nephews, Tracy and Jacob Dugan, niece, Carol Ann Dugan, grand-nieces Kelsey, Mabry and Naomi Dugan and the family that she chose, the Funyaks: Joseph, Michelle Sullivan, Kathy Clugston, Terry Tierney, and their children, Meghan, Kayla, Sarah, and Ashley. She also leaves behind Gary Kromer, her partner in life for many decades.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Richard and her sister, Marilyn (Boden) Dugan.

Lois was a graduate of Scott High School and the Braddock Hospital School of Nursing. After completion of nurses training, Lois entered the US Army as Captain where she served as an Army nurse for eight years, receiving an Army Occupation Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. After leaving to have her daughter, she spent the next 28 years in service to her fellow Veterans as a surgical intensive care and recovery room nurse at the Veterans Hospital in Oakland. She connected regularly with her fellow service members through regular reunions which took her across the United States.

After her retirement, in 1995, Lois continued to touch many lives. She gave freely of her time volunteering at Good Shepherd School in Braddock, serving children in the cafeteria every day for nearly 10 years.  This brought her great joy.  She maintained relationships with high school and nursing friends while ushering at the Benedum Theatre, traveling the East Coast, and taking casino trips to Canada. She may not have won money but the memories she made were with her until the end. She spent her last year living with her daughter, Michelle, in Cleveland, Ohio but remained a Steeler fan until the end.

Friends are welcome on Wednesday from 3-8pm at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 700 Linden Ave. at Cable, East Pittsburgh, 412-824-8800 where a Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 11 am.
