A lifelong resident of Monroeville, age 80, died on Saturday, January 23, 2021.
Beloved husband of Carole (Yates) Smeltz. Lloyd and Carole would have celebrated 58 years of their marriage in February.
Loving and devoted father of Mark H. (Elaine) Smeltz of TX and Shari (William) Almes of Cranberry.
Precious grandfather of Emily and twins Megan and Matthew Smeltz; Carly, Mark and Nicholas Almes.
Brother of Linda (late Terry) Boyd of CA, Wayne (Eileen) Smeltz of Monroeville, Faye (Gary) Teti of Penn Twp., Glenn (Beverly) Smeltz of Monroeville and Doug (Dena) Smeltz of Penn Twp.
Lloyd is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Lloyd was a 1958 graduate of Turtle Creek High school and immediately went to work for his father at their auto service business in Monroeville. As an entrepreneur, Lloyd eventually branched out into his own business, Smeltz Auto Body and Towing, as well as many other business enterprises. Inspired by being deeply patriotic and proud of his country, Lloyd and Carole then spent their retirement years travelling in their motorhome throughout the United States. Lloyd also became skilled at crafting artistic metal sculptures using copper as his base metal.
Lloyd was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner.
Lloyd has been characterized as being a larger-than-life person who always placed others ahead of himself, in an anonymous, humble fashion.
Friends are welcome on Tuesday from 10 a.m. – 12 noon at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Turtle Creek / Monroeville Chapel, 1111 Monroeville Ave., Turtle Creek, 412-823-9350. Lloyd’s Funeral Service will be private to his family and he will be laid to rest in Restland Cemetery. Memorial donations requested to Shriners Hospital, c/o 1877 Shriners Way, Cheswick, PA 15024.
