LeRoy R. "Lee" Wood

Of Turtle Creek, a proud Creeker, age 85, died on Tuesday, December 10, 2024.

Lee was the devoted and loving spouse of Patricia (Schwoeble) Wood for 64 years.

He was the treasured father of Jeffrey (Sally) Wood of Level Green, Tricia Wood of Edgewood and Melissa (Sean) McGuinness of North Huntingdon.

Lee was the precious PapPap of Jenna and Erin McGuiness, and Mya Pici.

He is also survived by his sisters, Sally (late Ed) Walker of AL, Jeannie (John) Reed of Missouri and Marian (late John) Waddell of Macungie, PA.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, David (surviving spouse, Patty) Wood, Mike (surviving spouse, Grace) Wood, Nancy (Warren) Way, Evelyn (Jerry) Wilkerson, Gail Wood and Kathy Wood.

Lee was delighted to be 1956 graduate of Turtle Creek High School. After graduation, he embarked a plumbing career that included membership in Plumbers Local Union #27 in Pittsburgh. His career included working on nuclear facilities, a 6-month stint on the Alaskan Pipeline, power plants, high rise buildings, hospitals and other commercial building projects.

In complementing his plumbing skills, Lee also was a very talented, self-taught wood worker. He has built cabinets, furniture, clocks, and other specialty items within the homes of his children, family, and friends.

Lee was also a passionate sports fan and volunteer. As an adult, he played hockey at the former rink in the Monroeville Mall and volunteered his time to flood the playgrounds of Turtle Creek in the winter to enable kids to enjoy outdoor ice skating. He even donated skates to needy kids.

Lee volunteered to give guidance to kids by volunteering for almost 20 years as a coach with the Turtle Creek Little League.

Lee was also an accomplished, excellent golfer who founded the Creekers Golf League at Grand View Golf Club, as well as organizing the annual T.C. Open.

Friends are welcome on Friday from 2-8p.m. on Friday at the Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Turtle Creek / Monroeville Chapel, 1111 Monroeville Ave., Turtle Creek, 412-823-9350.
Mass of Christian Burial will be in St. Colman Church, St. Joseph the Worker Parish, on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Lee will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Cemetery.
