Obituary of Lawrence W. Kustra

Of North Huntingdon, formerly of Forest Hills, age 76, passed away on Sunday, September, 21, 2025.

Larry was the beloved husband of Marcie (Nagy) Kustra, having just celebrated their 50th anniversary.

He was the loving and cherished father of Matt (Melissa Rees) of North Versailles and Lauren (Trae) Goodson of North Huntingdon.

Larry was the treasured grandfather of Julianna (Brent Little) Kustra, Samantha (Austin Maxwell) Kustra, Lemmy Kustra, Jackson, Madelyn and Elizabeth Goodson.

He was proud and pleased to be the great-grandfather of Atlas Maxwell.

Larry is also survived by his brothers, Robert (Krista) Kustra and Raymond (Karen) Kustra.

Larry was a 1967 graduate of the Bishop’s Latin High School and has been a volunteer and board member of its Alumni Association. Larry witnessed his faith as a Lector in the Catholic Church since Vatican Council II in 1965 when the position of Lector was created.

 A proud graduate with 3 degrees from Duquesne University, Larry's pursuit of knowledge led him to earn a degree in Philosophy in 1967, followed by a master's in the same field, and later, his law degree in 1982.

Following his graduation, Larry embarked on a legal career in private practice and soon thereafter served as a part-time public defender for Armstrong County. His heart for service led him to the public defender's office of Allegheny County in the early 2000s, where he became a steadfast advocate for those in need of representation. Larry’s commitment earned him the role of supervisor, a position he held with honor until his retirement in 2017.

Beyond the courtroom, Larry was a consummate raconteur in the form of bad dad jokes and totally useless information. He was a source of joy for all who knew him. A stickler for grammar, Larry was often playfully teased for his gentle corrections.

Larry's interests were as rich and varied as his character. He was an avid pipe smoker, jazz enthusiast, and noted ‘foodie’ and master in his kitchen.

Mass of Christian Burial will be in St. Maurice Church of St. Joseph the Worker Parish on Saturday at 10 a.m.
