Of Swisshelm Park, formerly of Garfield, age 84, died on Monday, November 21, 2022. John was predeceased by his younger brother, Jeremiah Patrick (Jerry) and his parents, Maurice "Sonny" O'Carroll and Mary Bridget (Long) O'Carroll who both emigrated to Pittsburgh from County Kerry Ireland, Bally Bunion and Listowel. John is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patricia (Collins) O'Carroll; 3 daughters, Kathleen (Tom) Keller, Maureen (Jim) Foss of Arizona and Erin LaRusso of Michigan; his 8 grandchildren, Amanda (Keller) Johnson, Austin Keller, Alexa Keller, Caitlyn Foss, Connor Foss, Blake LaRusso, Braden LaRusso, Brennan LaRusso; and one great-grandchild, Ryder Johnson, all of whom were the apple of his eye. Dear brother of Mary Margaret Kearns and Maurice (Mossey) O'Carroll of Florida. John also is survived by cousins in Ireland, England and Australia.
John was born and raised in Garfield. He attended St. Lawrence O'Toole grade school, class of '52, and Central Catholic High School, class of '56. John then attended Pittsburgh Automation Institute where he majored in machine wiring and automation, disciplines that were precursors to computer programming. John worked at Mine Safety Appliances in Homewood and Walworth Valve in Greensburg. He retired as manager of Computer Operations for the City of Pittsburgh in 1985 and as Manager of Information Systems for the Urban Redevelopment Authority in 2004. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) and past president of the A.O.H. Division #5 Swissvale. He was a devout Irish Catholic, an avid golfer and loved all things Irish especially the Irish language. John also served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Mass of Christian Burial in Word of God Church, Swissvale, of St. Joseph the Worker Parish on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 12 noon.
John will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Calvary Cemetery.
