Obituary of John G. Nolan

A lifelong resident of Turtle Creek, age 97, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 11, 2026.

John was the beloved husband of the late Jean (Dolan) Nolan for 70 years.

He was the treasured father of 10 children: Sue (Nick) Bianchi, Bob (Rita) Nolan, Ken (Barb) Nolan, Ed Nolan, Kathy (Mark) McKay, John (Sherri) Nolan, Judy (Steve) Yagatich, Jim (Andrea) Nolan, Tom (Kristen Felser) Nolan and Amy (Tom) Weikel.

He is also survived by 15 grandchildren: Brian (Lauren), Brenda, Brad (Kristina)  Bianchi; Stephen (Crystal) Nolan and Melissa (Dan) Greene; Kevin (Katy Heckmann) Nolan; Melanie (Matt) Scott and Julie (Jon) Gallo; Alec (Maria) Nolan; Kelly (Robert) Burns and Brandon Yagatich; Stephanie (Brandon) Morton and Andrew (Maeve Metzgar)  Nolan; Nathan and Madeline Weikel;  and 15 great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Susan (Hiner) Nolan and his brothers, Joseph (late Shirley) Nolan and William (late Shirley) Nolan.

John attended Turtle Creek High School and after school, he went on to build a long and respected career with Westinghouse Electric in East Pittsburgh, where he retired after more than 40 years of service. His commitment to his work was matched by the pride he took in being part of the Westinghouse community. While employed there, he also found time to enjoy the camaraderie of company athletics, playing basketball and softball on the Westinghouse teams.

John was deeply involved in athletics and in the encouragement of young people. For many years, he served as the volunteer coach for the St. Colman School basketball team. In addition to coaching, John also enjoyed umpiring both baseball and softball games, a role that allowed him to remain close to the sports he loved while continuing to support youth athletics in the community. His devotion to Turtle Creek extended far beyond the playing field. John was a past president of the former Touchdown Club in Turtle Creek, and he was also the stadium announcer for Turtle Creek High School football games.

John was a lifelong member and volunteer with St. Colman Parish, and he is remembered especially as an usher for many years. He could often be found walking to work, church, football games, and basketball games.

John G. Nolan leaves behind a legacy of devotion to family, parish, work, and community that will not be forgotten.

Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph the Worker Church (formerly St. Maurice in Forest Hills) on Thursday at 10 a.m.

John will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Cemetery.
