John McGinty Obituary

Of East Pittsburgh, for the past 7 years a resident of St. Therese Apartments in Munhall, age 92, died on Friday, April 3, 2020.

Dear brother of Mary Jane (late Gilbert) Bartman of West Homestead.

Treasured uncle of Beverly (Robert) Mannion of West Homestead and Dr. Barbara (Dr. Ernest Moy) Bartman of MD.

Proud great uncle of Justin Moy.

Jack was a WW II Army veteran and a graduate of East Pittsburgh High School. He was a member of the East Pittsburgh Economic Development Corporation and the former St. William Church and Holy Cross Parish. Jack was a loyal resident of East Pittsburgh and was a regular attendee of borough council meetings. He loved to stroll the sidewalks of East Pittsburgh and was an excellent gardener, known for his beautiful tomatoes. Jack also used his gardening skills to beautify East Pittsburgh. He planted numerous daffodils along the side slope of the Westinghouse Bridge exit ramp and cared for the flowers at the borough’s entrance sign there. Those daffodils have been blooming beautifully for the past week, a timely tribute to Jack. A few daffodils can also be spotted along Linden Avenue where Jack contributed his most remarkable and work-intensive project. For a few years, Jack uprooted scores of wild daylilies from the wooded areas around East Pittsburgh and North Braddock. He re-planted those daylilies along Linden Avenue and their blossoms flourish every May and June.  Those daylilies will be an annual floral remembrance of Jack.

Due to the Covid-19 epidemic, Jack’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at a later date.

Jack’s viewing and Blessing Service will be private to his family.

He will be laid to rest in Braddock Catholic Cemetery.
