John Bordogna Obituary

Of Lincoln, Nebraska, age 83, on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 with his loving wife, Sue, by his side. John was born September 24, 1931 in Turtle Creek, a son of Gaetano and Mary Grace (DePowell) Bordogna. John was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2006 and was constantly on chemotherapy. He continued to work hard and enjoy a good life while fighting the good fight against this incurable disease. For this reason, John's family asks that you Google, or otherwise check out multiple myeloma, to bring awareness to this rather rare form of cancer.

John began caddying at age 10 at Edgewood Country Club and did not stop working until the day he died.  He graduated as a top athlete from Turtle Creek High School in 1950. He accepted a football scholarship offer to the University of Nebraska. At Nebraska, he was a 3-year starting quarterback, setting records for pass attempts and total offense that stood until the 1970's. John was inducted into the Nebraska Football hall of Fame in 1988.

John was the owner of John Bordogna, Inc., a commercial and industrial painting business in its 60th year of operation. In 2012, Bordogna, Inc. painters completed the Devaney Center and the East Memorial Stadium addition at the University.

John was generous and kind, a fact he held close to his vest. those who knew him best are well aware of his work ethic, humility and joy he received in helping others. In his 60 years of contracting, there are not too many blocks and buildings in Lincoln, NE. that haven't been touched by Bordogna, Inc. painting contractors.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Sue Geis Bordogna; his loving daughter, Lisa Jensen; his precious grandsons, Daniel and John Anthony Jensen. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Judy and Harry Glunt, David and Hanna D’Ottavio, Jeff and Mara Bordogna, Bill and Rose Bordogna, Bobbi Gattrell, Diane and Alan Utt, Grace and George Thachick, Michael and Judy Drop and his cousin, Sr. Nancy Carrocia, O.P.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brothers, Angelo and William Bordogna, and his sisters, Louise Carrano, Mary Drop and Joy D'Ottavio.

Friends welcome Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8pm at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home, Turtle Creek/Monroeville Chapel, 1111 Monroeville Ave. at James St., Turtle Creek, 412-823-9350 where a Blessing Service will be held on Monday at 10 a.m.
