Of Wilkins Twp., age 92, died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 with the peace and love of her family present.
Joan was the beloved wife of the late Henry Caprara for 40 years.
She was the adored mother of Giovannina Caprara of TX, Enrico “Ric” (Genie) Caprara of Monroeville, Anita (Jim) Cain of Turtle Creek, Maria (Michael) McNutt of Wilmerding, Michael Caprara of Wilkins Twp., and Amy (Jeff) Myers of Wilkins Twp.
Joan is survived by 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter..
Joan is the sister of Catherine “Kitty” (late William) Kubicko of Turtle Creek and she was preceded in death by 11 siblings: Patricia Cramer, Rita Derdock, Barbara Jordan, Mary Schwoeble, Dorothy Suvak, Dennis Hearn, Joseph Hearn, John Hearn, Leo Hearn, Thomas Hearn and James Hearn.
Joan was also survived by all of her treasured grand pets.
Joan was a 1952 graduate of Turtle Creek High School. After raising her family, she became employed with the former McGinnis Sisters Specialty grocery store in Monroeville and retired at the age of 80 with 30 years of service.
She was a devout Catholic and proud member of the former St. Colman Parish in Turtle Creek (now St. Joseph the Worker Parish). She was a passionate sports fan of not only her Pittsburgh sports teams, but she loved to watch her grandchildren participate in their sports as well. Joan was known to crack witty jokes with her Irish humor, and she enjoyed solving Word Search puzzles.
All are welcome on Saturday from 5:30 – 8 pm and Sunday from 1-6pm at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Turtle Creek / Monroeville Chapel, 1111 Monroeville Ave., Turtle Creek, 412-823-9350.
Mass of Christian Burial will be in St. Joseph the Worker Parish (formerly St. Maurice) on Monday at 10 a.m.
Joan will be laid to rest in Good Shepherd Cemetery.
Joan’s family extends deep gratitude to all of the nurses and support staff at UPMC East 4th floor and Family Hospice.
