Currently a resident of Point Pleasant retirement community, formerly of North Huntingdon and North Versailles, age 86, passed away peacefully beside his adored wife, Nancy, on Thursday, August 29, 2024.
Born the son of the late James L. Oakes and the late Kathryn (ward) Oakes.
Beloved husband of Nancy (Elek) Oakes.
Loving brother of William (Sharon) Oakes. Dear brother-in-law of Salla Benda and Janet Bell.
Also survived by nieces and nephews.
Jim was a graduate of East Pittsburgh High School. He was employed with the Westinghouse Plant in East Pittsburgh for many years, where he aided in their implementation of various computer programs. Jim had a quiet demeanor, but truly had a zest for life. He enjoyed bicycling as a hobby. Over his lifetime, Jim biked over 10,000 miles alongside his group of friends, who together were nicknamed the “Slow Spokes”. The greatest joy in Jim’s life was his wife, Nancy, with whom he recently celebrated 53 years of marriage. Some of Jim’s fondest memories are those he shared with Nancy on their trips to Bethany Beach.
Per Jim’s request, there will be no visitation or service.
