Henry J. "Hank" Craig III Obituary

Henry J. Craig III, generally known as “Hank," passed away under hospice care at 88 years of age on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.  He had struggled with cancer since 2014.  Hank held a Masters in Computer Systems Analysis from the University of Pittsburgh and retired from the University as a Computer Systems Analyst after many years of service.

Hank loved to dance and tell jokes, as well as listen to jazz and enjoy good wine.  He played softball and was a member of the 1982 Men's Master USSSA Championship team.  In 1982, he also became a member of Mensa and maintained that affiliation until he passed.  Hank owned the Braddock Hills bar, Hank's ConKan, from 1978 - 1987, where he enlarged the business by adding fried food, pizza, and a regular Friday night DJ.  He had many friends and many good times at the ConKan.  Hank also shared many fun times with longtime friends at the Braddock Hills Fire Hall.  He also was a private in the U.S. Army from 1953 - 1955.  His service enabled him to take advantage of the G.I. Bill.

Hank is survived by his wife, Eleanor, and his two sons, Henry Craig IV and Andrew Craig.  The couple tragically lost their beloved middle son, Matthew, to cancer in March, 2022.  Hank is also survived by four grandsons, Henry J. D. Craig V, Ryan Craig, Conor Craig, and Jordan Craig, all whom he loved very much and of whom he was very proud.  His two sisters, Ruth Craig and Kathleen Ferris, have preceded him in death but his two brothers, Phillip Craig and Jack Craig, survive their brother.

Friends are welcome on Saturday from 2-4pm at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 700 Linden Avenue at Cable Avenue, East Pittsburgh (412-824-8800) where a Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m.
