Of White Oak, formerly of Blackridge, age 70, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 8, 2026.
Born the son of the late George Kociban and the late Mary (Mocak) Kociban.
Beloved husband of Pastor Deborah L. (Jones) Kociban for 43 wonderful years.
Loving father of Whitney Kociban of Elizabeth Township.
Dear brother of Mary (late Jim) Fry. Brother-in-law of Robert (Fern) Jones.
Uncle of Liz (Dustin) Rains, Brittany (Ryan Gatta) Jones, and Ian (Chuxi Feng) Jones.
George was a 1974 graduate of Windber Area High School, and went on to attend the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned a B.A. in social work. While at Pitt, George was a member of the Acacia Fraternity. At one of the frat functions, he was introduced to Deb, and the two quickly fell in love. George was a longtime employee of Family Services of Western Pennsylvania, where he served as a social worker.
George enjoyed trout fishing and having his coffee at Patti's Pasticceria in White Oak. He also loved going out to breakfast at either Herminie Diner, Dog House Diner, or Café 993.
Friends are welcome on Friday from 4-7 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Turtle Creek / Monroeville Chapel, 1111 Monroeville Ave., Turtle Creek, 412-823-9350, where a Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
George will be laid to rest in Grandview Cemetery.
