A lifelong resident of East Pittsburgh, age 83, died on Tuesday, January 5, 2021.
Beloved husband of Norma (Phillips) for 60 years.
Precious father of 4 daughters, Jonetta (Jim) Populo of Wilkins Twp., Vonetta (Ron) Mihm of Penn Twp., Paulette Geyer of SC and Lee Ann (Charlie) Morris of Plum.
Father-in-law of Michael Geyer.
Treasured grandfather of Aaron (Kelly) Friez, Jimmy (Dana) Populo, Kerri (Rick) Sikina; Wesley (Amberly) Mihm, Phillip (Keith) Mihm, Darren Mihm; Michael and Marissa Geyer; Timothy and Matthew Morris.
Proud great-grandfather of Oliver and Alex Friez, Maxwell and Claire Populo, Brynlee Mihm and Olivia Sikina.
Fred was the brother of Paul (Carol) Friez of AZ, David (Marsha) Friez of Wilkins Twp. and Cheryl (Tim) Bridge of FL.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Alice (late Wayne) Matheys and his brothers, Russell (late Mary Ruth) Friez, Harold (late Donna) Friez, Chuck (surviving spouse, Bunny) Friez and Rick Friez.
Fred was a 1957 graduate of East Pittsburgh High School and a retired employee of Thermal Industries. He was a member of the former “In Him Ministries”.
Fred loved a good round of golf, a hot, hearty cup of black coffee and rooting for the Pittsburgh Penguins, often texting with his grandchildren during a game.
Friends are welcome on Friday from 3-7pm at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home and Crematory Inc; 700 Linden Ave. at Cable; East Pittsburgh, 412-824-8800.

Fred’s Funeral Service will be in Electric Heights Methodist Church, Turtle Creek on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Fred will be laid to rest in Penn Lincoln Cemetery.
