Evelyn M. (Reitz) Mohan Downey

A resident of Redstone Highlands in Murrysville, age 94, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.

Evelyn was the beloved wife of Charles “Moe” Mohan for 43 years before his passing in 1993.

She later married James “Jim” Downey in 1999 and shared their marriage until his death in 2013.

Evelyn was the treasured mother of Charles “Chuck” (Adrienne) Mohan of Murrysville, Kathleen (Mark) Campbell of Murrysville, Robert (Mary Beth) Mohan of VA, Anthony (Diane) Mohan of MD and Lisa (Frank) LaCava of Monroeville.   

Evelyn is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Donald (late Lucille) Reitz and Robert Reitz who was killed in service during WW II.

Evelyn is also survived by Jim’s children and grandchildren.

Although she was predominantly a home maker for her career, Evelyn also worked many hours in various positions at her family’s restaurant, Mohan’s in Penn Hills. In her spare time, she was a volunteer delivery driver for Meals-On-Wheels in Monroeville and hosted a Bible study group in her home. A favorite pastime for Evelyn was playing Bridge with her card playing friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be in Mother of Sorrows Church, Murrysville, on Monday at 10:00 am.

Evelyn will be laid to rest with Moe in Braddock Catholic Cemetery.
