Of Monroeville, age 78, died on Monday, November 4, 2024, with his family at his side.
Ed was the beloved husband of Dorothy (Pillar) Pegdan for 53 years.
He was the loving father of Jeanette (Ted) Strickland of AZ and Christy (Paul) Watts of Monroeville.
Ed was the treasured grandfather of Elijah and Emma Hendricks.
He is also survived by his sisters, Janice (Jeff) Matthews of Plum and Judy (Jim) Homze of Apollo as well as several nieces and nephews.
Ed was a 1964 graduate of North Braddock Scott High School and served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he gained employment as a steelworker at the USSteel Homestead Plant. Being laid off during the downturn of the steel industry in the 1980’s, Ed began a career with the federal government. He initially served with the Veterans Administration and later transferred to the U.S. Postal Service from where he eventually retired. During retirement he loved to play softball with the Penn Hills Senior Softball League. Ed also relished any time to hunt and fish. His long-time passion was being a staunch fan of the Pitt football team for whom he was a season ticketholder for over 20 years. Ed also enjoyed several vacations to Europe with Dorothy and many trips to visit their family in Arizona.

Mass of Christian Burial will be in St. Bernadette Church of Christ the Divine Shepherd Parish in Monroeville on Friday at 11 a.m.
Ed will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Braddock Catholic Cemetery.
