Of Penn Hills, age 90, died unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.
Dr. John was the beloved husband of Gloria (Derdock) Menotiades for 50 years.
He was the loving and devoted father of Nikitas (Sharon) Menotiades of Philadelphia, Kristiann (Jardanian) Josephs of Gibsonia and Paul (Keri) Menotiades of Penn Hills.
Dr. John was the treasured grandfather of Giancarlo Josephs, Eleni Josephs, Giordano Josephs and William Menotiades.
Dr. John was born in Messini, Greece, moved to Kalamata where he was raised and, at age 15, emigrated to the United States to Moline, IL. He earned his B.S. in Biochemistry at Austin Peay University and shortly after graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and became a paratrooper. Upon his discharge from the Army, Dr. John returned to Greece to attend medical school at Athens University. After medical school, he returned to the United States to serve with Island of Hope Addiction center in Nebraska. Dr. John then began his Residency program at Shadyside Hospital where he not only became a doctor, but where he met Gloria and became a husband.
In 1981, Dr. John opened his private practice in Turtle Creek, with Gloria at his side serving as both nurse and office manager. Together, they built a practice that reflected his belief that medicine should always be personal, respectful, and grounded in trust. Dr. John loved his patients and treated them with dignity and homespun, yet accurate care. He was known for taking the time to speak with those who came through his doors, often chatting with them in the waiting room and never rushing them in the examining room. His patients came to know him not only as a skilled doctor, but also as a warm and attentive listener who made each person feel seen and valued.
From 2010-2014, Dr. John, with his passion for addiction recovery, joined Jade Wellness Center to further help those battling addiction.
Beyond his practice of medicine, Dr. John fiercely adored his family and supporting their passions. He especially cherished his grandchildren. After retirement in 2014, he was able to spend many hours with them, enjoying the privilege of his role as Papou.
In his spare time, Dr. John enjoyed planting and raising vegetables in his garden and he could be found strumming on his guitar as a way to relax.
All are welcome on Friday from 2-8 pm at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Turtle Creek / Monroeville Chapel, 1111 Monroeville Ave., Turtle Creek, PA 15145, (412) 823-9350 where a Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 9 a.m.
