A lifelong resident of Turtle Creek, age 86, died on Monday, September 30, 2024.
Dorothy was the beloved wife of the late Edmund J. “Big Ed” Basista for 57 years.
She was the loving mother of Edmund Basista, Jr. of Turtle Creek and Joseph Basista of Penn Twp.
Dorothy was the proud grandmother of Joey and Dominic Basista.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, William and Robert Macherosky.
Dorothy was a 1956 graduate of Turtle Creek High School and a long time employee of Giant Eagle. She worked at numerous Giant Eagle stores throughout the area. While working as a cashier at the Braddock store years ago, she met “Big Ed” and that led to 57 years of marriage. The last Giant Eagle that she worked at was in Monroeville. In retirement, she loved to root for her favorite hockey team, the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Friends are welcome on Thursday from 10-11 a.m. at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 1111 Monroeville Ave., Turtle Creek (412) 823-9350 where a Blessing Service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m.
Dorothy will be laid to rest with Ed in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
Dorothy’s family extends deep appreciation and gratitude to both Concordia of Monroeville and Good Samaritan Hospice for the excellent care and attention which they bestowed upon her.
