David McNutt Obituary

A longtime resident of Point Breeze, age 82, died on Sunday, February 9, 2025 with his family at his side.

Dave was the beloved husband of Rosemary (Murphy) McNutt for 60 years, 9 months and 12 days before Eileen was born.

He was the loving father of Eileen (David) Letson of Forest Hills and Rose (Donald) Ferraro of Saxonburg.

David was the proud and treasured grandfather of Colin (Jessica) Letson of Moon Twp., Sarah (fiancé Ryan Briggs) Letson, Christopher Klobuchir of Saxonburg, Kauleen Cloutier and Lydia (Ben) Olu-Harding and their children, Xalina, Ryah and Zeke.

He was the brother of Margaret “Peggy” (late Olan) Raabe and the late William (surviving spouse, Melinda) McNutt.

Dave was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and after his discharge earned his Associates Degree from CCAC.  In 1968, he began his tenure with the Pittsburgh Police Department, dedicating himself to the safety and well-being of his community. Dave found his calling as a Community Relations Officer in Zone 6 in Squirrel Hill, where he truly shone and earned the endearing title of ‘Officer Friendly’. His commitment to fostering a positive rapport between law enforcement and the community did not go unnoticed, as evidenced by a feature article in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette that celebrated his contributions before his retirement in 1996.

Dave was a proud and active member and delegate for the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #1. His involvement with the F.O.P. allowed him to advocate for the welfare of police officers and the city they serve.

Dave's love for people extended into his life after retirement. He embarked on a second career as a charter bus driver for DeBolt and MBI bus companies. It was a job he cherished, providing him the opportunity to travel the roads from Florida to New England. He became a favorite among passengers, many of whom expressed their gratitude and admiration through letters of commendation.

Travel was a passion for Dave, and together with Rosemary, they traveled extensively and for 20 years, they were 'snowbirds,' splitting their time between Pittsburgh and Gulf Shores, AL.

Friends are welcome on Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8pm at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 700 Linden Ave. at Cable, East Pittsburgh, PA 15112, (412) 824-8800 where a Blessing Service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m.

Dave will be interred privately at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
