David J. "Abby" Abernathy, Sr.

Of North Braddock, age 74, died unexpectedly at home, on Tuesday, September 19, 2023.

Beloved husband of Georgette (Bruno) for 53 years.

Loving father of Carrie (the late Michael) Ondike of Braddock Hills, and DJ Abernathy of North Braddock.

Grandfather of Ashley Purcell.

Great grandfather of Mia Shearer.

Uncle Uncle of Alyssa (Jesse), Maria (Eli), Paul, Andrea, Scott (Alyssa), Christina, Joe (Jenna), and the late Brittany.

Great uncle of Violet and Cooper.

Brother in law of the late Bob (survived by Mary Beth) Bruno, and Robin (the late Paul) Merkel, George (Cheryl) Bruno.

Also survived by many cousins, friends and family.

David honorably served during the Vietnam War, earning a Purple Heart for his bravery. He was a lifelong member of the NBVFD #3. David enjoyed watching and participating in racing, especially at the Eldora Speedway. He also liked to go to camp with his family. David treasured the time with his family and loved to be surrounded by his loved ones.

Friends welcome Friday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the  Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 700 Linden Avenue at Cable Avenue, East Pittsburgh (412-824-8800) where a Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. followed by military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family.
