Daniel F. Dudek

Of Canonsburg, formerly of Forest Hills, age 79, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on Tuesday, May 9, 2023.  Originally from White Oak, Dan graduated from McKeesport High School in 1961. As a young man, Dan sang in the choir and was a camp counselor at St. Nicholas Serbian Church. He began his career in the mail room at Westinghouse in Churchill, and worked his way through the University of Pittsburgh, obtaining his engineering degree while attending classes at night. Dan enjoyed a 37-year career as an engineer at Westinghouse, receiving awards and credit for patents along the way. After retirement, he returned to Westinghouse, serving as a mentor to many younger employees.

Despite those achievements, Dan is most remembered for his devotion and love for family, especially Anna, his loving wife of 52 years, his sons Daniel (Carolyn), Anthony (Kendra), Michael (Maria), and his 8 grandchildren, Sophia, Alena and Daniel; Simeon, Novena and Everleigh; Dante and Dimitri. Dan is also survived by his sister, Cindy (Joseph) White, and her 2 children, Andrew (Stacey) White and Martha Jo (Vicky) Egan.  He was preceded in death by his mother Cecilia Marie and father Daniel.

In addition to his deep love for family, Dan was a pillar of the Presentation of Christ Greek Orthodox Church (Ypapanti) in East Pittsburgh, where he served as parish council president for 11 years.  Among his many accomplishments, Dan is honored in the Ypapanti Sports Hall of Fame, the result of his instrumental role in establishing the parish (GOYA) basketball league.  The positive impact Dan had on his family, community, and church cannot be overstated. His loving, caring, and larger-than-life persona will long be remembered, and missed, by all who knew him.   

Visitations will be held at the Presentation of Christ Greek Orthodox Church, Ypapanti, 1672 Electric Avenue, East Pittsburgh 15112 on Thursday, May 11, 2023 from 2pm to 8pm and Friday, May 12, 2023 from 10 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 11 a.m.  Dan will be laid to rest in Monongahela Cemetery.
