Claudia J. (Dabney) Hart-Russell

On Thursday, July 24, 2025, Claudia Hart-Russell, born October 25, 1963, made her heavenly ascent at the young age of 61 years.

Claudia was the beloved wife of Samuel J. Russell, III for the past three years. She was also a faithful wife to Steven O. Hart until his early departure in 2018.

Her love blossomed beyond the fields of her own creation. She is survived by her siblings Minerva Daniels, Alexander Dabney, Dana Ford and Caren Summers. Her legacy lives on within her two heartbeats left on this world: Bal Dabney Artis and Brittney Jennae Hart. Her warmth found its way to the lives of her claimed children: Ashley Hines, Samuel J. Russell, IV, Twila Russell, Lanesha Russell.

She was the doting grandmother to Treasure Hines, Kimberly Russell and Kayla Russell.

Claudia had a rare light that projected onto others until they realized their own shine, which was the hallmark of her giving and nurturing nature. A native of Washington, D.C., Claudia graduated from high school in the District before building a meaningful career in the medical field between both DC and Pittsburgh. Recently, as a dedicated Medical Assistant at UPMC’s Penn Center East office, her nature found its place in service to her team and all patients that found their way at the center’s door.

Claudia was a woman of quiet strength and warmth. She found joy in painting and took pride in her collection of African-American Barbie dolls. Her legendary Mac and Cheese was a family favorite and just one of the many ways she expressed love. Claudia’s sweet, gentle nature made her a bright light in the lives of all who knew her—she was warm, gracious, and full of love for her family.

Though no public service will be held, Claudia’s life will be cherished and celebrated in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her. She will be eternally missed.
