Of East Pittsburgh, age 96, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 17, 2026, in the presence of her family.
Cel was born in East Pittsburgh on May 13, 1930 and was the daughter of Stanley and Cecelia Jankovek.
Cel was the beloved spouse for 74 years of the late Edward J. Fischer, Sr. who died on September 11, 2025.
She was the devoted and loving mother of Cecelia “Cel” (late Michael) Lovis of East Pittsburgh, Cindy Caldarelli of North Braddock, Edward (Geri) Fischer, Jr. of East Pittsburgh, the late Carol (late John) McIntyre and the late Cathy (late Mike) Polowsky.
Cel is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Cel was a 1948 graduate of North Braddock Scott High school. She was a career homemaker and she was an excellent seamstress, taking great care in creating beautiful clothing for her children, especially for special occasions. Her skill and creativity were also evident in the band outfits she crafted for the former East Pittsburgh Firemenettes marching group.
Cel was also appreciated by her family and neighbors for the beautiful gardens of flowers that she tended in her yard and garden. Her blooming plants and flowers were legendary.
As her children grew into adults, Cel became widely known as an Avon Lady, providing cosmetic items to many customers and friends. She was a staunch rooter of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Steelers and their wins brought her great joy. The most favorite time for Cel was any time she could be with her children and family, and the gatherings for holidays held a special place in her heart.
Friends are welcome on Wednesday from 3-7pm at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 700 Linden Ave. at Cable, East Pittsburgh, PA 15112, (412) 824-8800.
Mass of Christian Burial will be in St. Joseph the Worker Church (formerly St. Maurice Church) in Forest Hills on Thursday at 10 a.m.
