Of Eastern Suburbs, age 74, died on Thursday, September 7, 2023.
Butch was the proud father of Carl Ernest “Butch” Ayres, III (wife, Stacey) of Irwin, Jonathan “Bubba” (wife, Samantha) Ayres of Pitcairn and Christine (husband, Justin) of Monroeville and also, Michelle (Mark) Onofrey of Elizabeth and Leslee Woods of North Huntingdon.
He is survived by 11 grandchildren and his sisters, Ruth Ann Nolen of East McKeesport, Barbara “Bunny” Friez of Cranberry and Jonnie Knighton of North Braddock.
Butch was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and continued service to our country as a police officer. During his law enforcement career as a part-time officer, Butch served in various police departments, some simultaneously, including Swissvale, Pitcairn, Wilmerding, Turtle Creek, East Pittsburgh and East McKeesport. Butch also served as a volunteer with the Swissvale Fire Dept.
As evidenced by his police service, Butch worked wherever he could. He served as a PA. State constable, on the Drug Task Force and even a drove tractor trailer. Butch also valued his membership as a Mason with the F&AM Duquesne Lodge. In whatever spare time he could find, Butch would enjoy a day of fishing or hunting.
