Bernard "Bernie" Francis Susalla

Of White Oak, formerly of Turtle Creek, age 75, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024.

Born on August 21,1948, to the late Joseph Susalla and the late Mary (Mediate) Susalla.

Beloved husband of Barbara J. Acheson-Susalla for 43 wonderful years.

Loving father of Michael J. (Danyelle) Susalla of Trafford.

Adored granddad of Kayla and Ryleigh Susalla.

Dear brother of Dolores Eror-Susalla and Lisa (Gary) Susalla-Lasser.

Brother-in-law of Nancy (Phil) Phillips, Linda (Joe) Smith, and Carol (Don) Roberts.

Uncle of Sarah (Heath) Storey. Great uncle of Adelyn and Finley.

Bernie grew up in the town of Turtle Creek and attended Turtle Creek High School.  He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and was assigned to the USS Enterprise during the Vietnam War.  When it came to work, Bernie was truly a jack of all trades.  He was skilled welder, mechanic, roofer, and painter, having owned and operated his own painting business, Bernie’s Painting and Home Repair.  Bernie was a NASCAR and drag racing enthusiast who loved racing his Dodge Dart in his earlier years.  He also treasured the memories of taking trips on his Harley Davidson motorcycle with Barb.  Bernie was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and was well known for spending time birdwatching for Bald Eagles, and taking time in the evenings to watch wrestling on T.V.  He was an all-around animal lover and adored his new puppies, Lucy and Harmony.  Bernie would like the memory of him to be a happy one, and wishes everyone would remember him by his favorite quote, “Live to Ride, Ride to Live.”

Friends are welcome Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Turtle Creek / Monroeville Chapel, 1111 Monroeville Ave., Turtle Creek, 412-823-9350, where a Blessing Service will be held Thursday at 7 p.m.

Bernie will be laid to rest with Military Honors in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies on Tuesday at 10:30am.
