Arnell D. "Arnie" Newsome

Of Pittsburgh, age 71, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 22, 2025.

Arnell is survived by his siblings, Cevan Newsome, Kelli Jordan, Dean (Jennifer) Newsome, Colleen Newsome, and Courtney Newsome; and his surrogate aunt, Gladys Irvin.

He is proceeded in death by his mother, Ethel Newsome; and his brother, Donzal Newsome.

Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Arnie was proud to have been raised in the town of Braddock, PA, and was a 1971 graduate of St. Thomas Catholic High School.  He then attended the University of Pittsburgh, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in psychology.  Arnie proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force Reserves, and was stationed at the 911th Airlift Wing just outside of Pittsburgh.

Arnie became a well-known figure in downtown Pittsburgh as the proud owner of a shoe repair business, located in the Grant Building. His shop became more than just a place for repairs; it was a hub of community and camaraderie. Arnie's warm smile and genuine interest in his customers' lives earned him countless friendships, which he maintained even after his retirement in 2023. His ability to connect with people from all walks of life was truly remarkable.

He was an active member of the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh, where he not only taught judo classes, but was also a member of their board of directors.

Those who knew Arnie will remember him as a loving individual who always put the needs of others before his own.

As per Arnell’s wishes, there will not be a visitation or service.
