Antonio DeCaria Obituary

Of West Mifflin, age 88, died on Thursday, March 7, 2024.

Antonio was the beloved husband of Fortunata (Filia) DeCaria for 69 years.

He was the loving and treasured father of Joseph (Helen) DeCaria of West Mifflin, Nick (Lucille) DeCaria of Allison Park and Antonietta (Mark) Soltez of West Mifflin.

Antonio was extremely proud of his grandson, Daniel Antonio DeCaria who has served in the U.S. Army, and is currently serving as a Sergeant in the Army National Guard, while also being a Police Officer in Butler.

Antonio is also survived by his sister, Rosa Gambino and his brother, Valentino DeCaria, both of Italy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Giuseppe and Antonia (Musaci) DeCaria, his brother, Vincenzo DeCaria and his sisters, Teresa and Cristina DeCaria.

Antonio immigrated to the United States in 1956 and settled in North Braddock.  He was hired as a laborer with Standard Metal in Braddock and learned the trade of welding while employed there. After the plant’s closing due to a fire, he worked at a few other places before landing a welding position with Wilhelm and Kruse Ornamental Ironworks in Rankin., from where he retired.

During his working years, when he was confronted with layoffs, Antonio found a way to provide for his family by painting, mowing lawns, washing walls, and doing an assortment of odd jobs.

His favorite pastime was vegetable gardening. Antonio preserved and jarred his tomatoes, was a wine maker, and crafted both hot sausage and soppressata.

He was a member of the Forest Hills Lodge of the Italian Sons and Daughters of America.
