A long-time resident of Turtle Creek, age 96, passed away peacefully on Friday, August, 18, 2023.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Corrado and Marina Balest and her siblings: Bruno Balest, Florence Balest and Lewis (late Margaret) Balest.
She is survived by her nephews Lewis Balest, John (Arcangela) Balest, Richard (Arlene) Balest and niece Margaret (Greg) Conley, as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Born in North Versailles in 1926, Alice graduated from Turtle Creek High School in 1944. Her adventurous spirit carried her to a job with the government in Washington D.C. at the end of World War II, and then an administrative support position in Manhattan, New York City. She eventually returned to Pittsburgh and enjoyed a long career at ALCOSAN before retiring in 1989. Alice was a generous and giving person who spent much of her life caring for others. She was also just plain fun to be around. We are fortunate to have had her for many wonderful years with good health and mind. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
Her family would like to thank her neighbor, Dave Stano, for his unending friendship and support, the compassionate care teams at New Hope Personal Care in Bellevue, the Vincentian Home in the North Hills and Bethany Hospice.
Friends are welcome on Saturday from 10-10:45 at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Turtle Creek / Monroeville Chapel, 1111 Monroeville Ave., Turtle Creek, 412-823-9350.
Mass of Christian Burial will be in St. Colman Church, Turtle Creek, (St. Joseph the Worker Parish) on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Alice will then be laid to rest in Good Shepherd Cemetery.
