George grew up during the Great Depression, and was born to George J. and Anna (Wipperman) Hoffman.

After graduating High School in Massachusetts he joined the Army and served our country during the height of WWII. George served in the 295th Combat Engineers Division and saw conflict in numerous towns and cities in Europe. It was during his time in the service that he began exchanging letters with his soon-to-be wife. Once he was discharged from his service he met and married his wife Hazel.

George was the beloved husband of the late Hazel L. (Tatters) Hoffman for 49 years;

Loving father of G. Dennis (Dolly) Hoffman of Forest Hills, and the late Diana M. Hoffman;

Proud grandfather of Sherri L. (Chad) Fellabaum of Rostraver, and Robert F. (Jamie) Hoffman of Delmont;

Great-grandfather of Alyssa and Madison Fellabaum, and Ashley and Sarah Hoffman; and step-great-grandfather of Emileigh and Jenna Rizzardi.

George worked his civilian career doing maintenance for numerous jobs. He worked for 35 years at the J&L Steel Plant along the Monongahela River up until it closed. He stayed until the plant shut down and was one of the last remaining employees. During his semi-retirement he stayed occupied as maintenance man for St. Maurice Church School, Centurion Commons, and the PAA. In addition to his talent for fixing things, George enjoyed his cars and driving. He was well known on Atlantic Ave. for his series of Lincoln’s that he had always parked in the driveway.

Friends welcome on Sunday 2-8PM at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 700 Linden Ave. at Cable, East Pittsburgh, PA 15112, 412-824-8800.
