Ralph Carmen Hartford

A life-long resident of Braddock, age 87, June 29, 1929 - June 27, 2017.

Ralph is preceded in death by his parents, Sarah (Savarina Esposito) and Ralph (Raffael Alfieri) and his five siblings, Chuck (surviving spouse, Flo) Hartford, Josephine (Frank) Moronese, Mary (Nick) Hobby, Katy (John) Fusca, and Carm (Rafe) Zezza.

He was the uncle of 17 nieces and nephews, 16 great-nieces and nephews, 25 great-great-nieces and nephews, and 10 great-great-great nieces and nephews.

He was also the proud godfather of many family members and friends.

Ralph graduated from Braddock High School and his extended education at Pitt led him to a 30 year career with the PA State Insurance Commission as a Fraud Investigator. He was national President of the Italian Sons and Daughters of America (ISDA) for 16 years, after holding offices as Vice President, and National Orator. Ralph was chairman of Italian Day at Kennywood for many years. The annual event hosted over 900 special needs children and adults for a day of food, fun, rides, and games. He also enjoyed participating in the annual Columbus Day Parade in Bloomfield and was happy to attend other festivities as well.

Ralph enjoyed hunting deer, and loved spending time with his family and friends at his cottage, along the Allegheny River, in Kennerdell, PA. He rarely missed a family function or a Friday luncheon with his cumps. To his family he was affectionately known as Junior or Uncle Junior, and Guff by his close friends. He was a great man and will surely be missed by all.

Friends welcome on Thursday (7/6/17) and Friday (7/7/17) from 2-8 PM on both days at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., Turtle Creek/Monroeville Chapel, 1111 Monroeville Ave., Turtle Creek, PA 15145, 412-823-9350. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Ralph at Good Shepherd Church in Braddock on Saturday (7/8/17) at 10 AM. He will then be laid to rest, with his parents, in Braddock Catholic Cemetery.
