If anyone feels they need some special grief help, please call us at 412-824-8800 and we can direct to both on-line and telephone opportunities for grief support.

Bereavement Support Group:

Our services do not end with the service at the funeral. Our funeral home sponsors a Bereavement Support Group that meets on the first Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m., January through November at St. Maurice Parish Center in Forest Hills, Pa. Jill (Henkel) Kazour, a professional counselor, provides this support to area folks. It is open to anyone who feels the need for even a little help, during this difficult time of grieving the death of a loved person. Call our funeral home at 412-824-8800 for more information.

Gentle Yoga for Those in Grief:

Sponsored by Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home, Inc.

The program is designed to help those experiencing grief after the loss of a loved one to heal through the gentle movements and mindfulness of chair support yoga.

Yoga sessions are held at the Forest Hills Westinghouse Lodge; 799 Barclay Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15221.

There are 2 afternoon sessions on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of every month from 10 - 11a.m., and 2 evening sessions on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of every month from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

The sessions are FREE and all are welcome.

Yoga Instructor Connie Tinsley can be reached at 412-443-4837 regarding questions or concerns about the program. You can also call Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home at 412-824-8800.

The Joseph Wambaugh Library in East Pittsburgh has been established as a grief resource center with numerous book & other media on the subject of grief. There is also a section on children's grief literature.

The Caring Place

Jill Henkel Kazour and our Bereavement Support group may not be the best place to seek help for children who are grieving the loss of a special person. The Caring Place is a special place for grieving children and adolescents and their families. It is located in the former Horne’s building on Stanwix St. in Downtown Pittsburgh. The Caring Place offers a program of support, understanding and caring with professional counselors and trained volunteers. For information call The Caring Place at 1-888-224-4673.

The late Fred Rogers, creator and host of Mister Rogers Neighborhood and former Honorary Chairman of The Caring Place, said at the dedication of The Caring Place:

“It is only natural that we and our children

find many things hard to talk about.

But anything human is mentionable and

Anything mentionable can be manageable.

The mentioning can be difficult, and the

Managing too, but both can be done

If we’re surrounded by love and trust.”

Compassionate Friends

Compassionate Friends is a support group for parents who have experienced the death of a child.

Compassionate Friends is an international non-profit, self-help support organization which offers friendship and understanding to families who are grieving the death of a child of any age, from any cause.
