Of North Braddock, age 67, died on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at UPMC Shadyside.
Loving father of James A. (Natalie) Wissman II of Penn Hills, and Katy (Travis) Wissman-Hennessey of Harrisburg.
Proud grandfather of James A. Wissman III and Jonah Wissman.
Dear brother of Robert (Joann) Wissman of Forest Hills.
Preceded in death by his parents Robert and Isabelle (Vitullo) Wissman.
Jim was a lifelong resident of the Pittsburgh area, having graduated from Swissvale High School in the class of '75. For more than two decades, Jim co-owned and operated Wissman's Bowling Supplies on Ardmore Blvd. in Forest Hills, alongside his father, where he became an integral part of the local bowling community. He skillfully drilled thousands of bowling balls, not only for local enthusiasts but also for the actors in the movie "Kingpin." Jim's expertise extended to the maintenance of bowling lanes, spending his summers resurfacing lanes across Pittsburgh Bowling centers and ensuring the lanes at WTAE were in top condition for the Greater Pittsburgh Championship Bowling. Following his tenure at the pro shop, Jim brought his strong work ethic to the Edgewood Borough Department of Public Works, where he dedicated over 20 years of service in the street department until his retirement. However, retirement did not slow him down; he continued to work at Braddock Cemetery, where he found peace and pride in maintaining the beauty and sanctity of the grounds.
Jim was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates. His love for fishing was shared with his buddy, Marty, on the serene waters of Pymatuning. Jim's affinity for animals was profound; from his pet hamster, Pinky, to the wild deer and turkeys he would encounter at the cemetery, he showed an innate ability to connect with all living beings. His compassion and gentle nature were a comfort to both animals and people alike.
Jim is now reunited with his beloved parents, his crazy aunts, and his best friend Cowboy DeLuca.
